Alfani Spring 2011
Macy’s has a magic formula, I can’t place all of the ingredients but their private brands, which include INC, American Rag and Alfani are all part of that super power that many retailers wish they could get their hands on.
At the Spring/Summer 2011 collection for Alfani, I was mesmerized by that majestic formula. The collection which was broken into three color inspired themes with complimenting accessories, age appropriate models (think sexy women not pretty girls), showed off jersey, cotton and blended transitional fabrics in nautical blues, spring greens and classic neutral shades.
Classic Alfani shapes and fabric were consistent amongst all three. Within the nautical theme – navys, and shades of seacoast colors in varying prints were placed on the classic Alfani tunic and three-quarter sleeve tunic dress. On the spring greens – dresses and tops showcased an abstract walk in Central Park. While observing the bold greens pieces, I sadly remembered we are still in autumn and there’s still a few months until one could truly appreciate the pieces.
The breakout star of the collection happened for me was the black wasp waist shirtdress (in the neutral section ) think Betty Draper or I Love Lucy for the modern woman. A close runner-up was the nude anorak which is becoming a major staple piece in every chic city girl’s wardrobe. Could it be the anorak is replacing the blazer as the power transitional piece?
The successful component of Alfani is of course its price point and pulse on complimenting trends without being too trendy. The true dynamic of Alfani’s success is the ability to make its customer look effortless and stylish without looking lazy and uninspired.
