Google Launches Boutiques.com with a Party
In case you aren’t aware Google is trying to rule world as evidence by a series of technology advances that have completely changed the way most us do business. And now the conglomerate is setting its sights on the fashion world, following in the steps of sites like Revolve Clothing, ShopStyle, Piperlime, and Polyvore, with the recent launch of a new fashion website – Boutiques.com. The new website “will allow Google to better tap into one of the biggest-selling and fastest-growing categories on the Web—apparel, accessories, and footwear—and hedge against the growing threat to search that social media and distributed retailing pose,” expains Women’s Wear Daily on the newly launched website. The website will allow customers to create their own “shop” with merchandise to boot and the shops can be shared with friends. According the site “Boutiques.com is a personalized shopping experience, brought to you by Google, that lets you find and discover fashion goods through a collection of boutiques curated by taste-makers — celebrities, stylists, designers, and fashion bloggers. Boutiques uses visual technology to help fashionistas discover and shop their look and creates the opportunity for designers to showcase their collections and latest inspirations online.”
We got a sneak peek at Boutiques.com at a party held earlier this week at the super swanky Skylight SoHo attended by some serious fashion heavyweights (no surprise there). The venue was transformed to better suite the nights activities; performers were all over the place, dimmed lights, a tattoo “parlor” with a temporary tattoo station, mini-golf station, picnic tables and of course models wearing designs from the specialty shops from designers like Nicole Miller.
Celebs spotted at the party include – Carey Mulligan, Alexa Chung, Kelly Osbourne who graciously posed for our picture, Christian Siriano, Georgina Chapman, Keren Craig, Emma Roberts, Ashley Olsen, Anna Paquin with husband, Ashlee Simpson, Claire Danes, Elisabeth Moss, Behnaz Sarafpour, Iman, B.J. Coleman, Catherine Malandrino, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Rachel Roy, Tory Burch, Viveca A. Fox (with a PYT), and ET corespondent Cojo Cojocaru who chatted with us about fashion.
Take a look at our pictures from the evening.
