Art Insiders Attend VIP Preview of “Le Cabinet de Curiosités”
A well-heeled group of art-world insiders, collectors, and tastemakers descended to The New York Mercantile Building over the weekend to attend a swanky celebration presented by Marlborough and Steinitz galleries. The event which was held in honor of the opening of “Le Cabinet de Curiosités,” an installation from artist Thierry Despont, featured antiques from the Steinitiz collection. The collection of antiques were scattered throughout the renovated space.
The constant chatter from the VIP revelers and the free-flowing MOET offered a lovely escape from the happenings outside and provided great backdrop to experience the exhibition which was meant to mimic an old world home with loads of amazing pieces.
The world Despont created is filled with charming reposed items–including a grand selection of bugs/insects created from antique mechanical objects; stunning antiques including a desk from Napoleon; and a delightful art piece which resembled a bookshelve and a slew of other carefully chosen pieces.
The exhibition is open until January 31, 2012. So check it out.
