Unveiled: Lord & Taylor’s 2014 Holiday Windows (With Special Guest Nick Jonas)
Holiday season is upon us. The intersection of West 38th Street and Fifth Avenue was a tad crowded last night to celebrate the holiday spirit as Lord & Taylor unveiled its annual holiday windows with special guest Nick Jonas, who delighted the audience with a live performance of two songs from his new album along with some cheery holiday tunes.
The scene was full of screaming fans, hot chocolate, sparkling lights, and light rain – but a little drizzle didn’t stop the singer from putting on an intimate and festive show. Fans followed him to Lord & Taylor’s third floor afterwards for a meet-and-greet.
This year’s display (particularly special because it’s the 100th anniversary of Lord & Taylor’s iconic Fifth Avenue home) is at once whimsical and high-tech. The theme across the windows is to take visitors through the various rooms of an enchanted mansion. Our favorite is “The Heritage Gallery,” which features cool video wall technology that has animated creatures (cats, dogs… and even a giraffe) inside of their framed photos on the wall. A bit of Lord & Taylor holiday trivia: the elaborate displays were created by a team of over 50 people (over the course of nine months), are the only department store windows to run on hydraulics, and weigh up to 2,000 pounds! Take a glimpse of last night’s festivities and swing by 424 Fifth Avenue to see the holiday windows for yourself.
