Hot! Not Your Mother’s AMBI a Quick Glance at the Latest Products & Skin Care Tips

is a new formulation of AMBI. This is not your mother’s AMBI,” explains Dr. Fran Cook-Bolden, M.D., Director of Skin Specialty Dermatology and Ethnic Skin Specialty Group in NYC, of the company which was founded in Africa in 1966.

Due to better understanding and improved research on darker skin AMBI–popular among this rarefied set for its wide array of products that treat skin ailments–such as uneven skin tone, dark spots and blotchy skin, has re-formulated their products.

We were invited to preview the newly released offerings and chat with Dr. Fran Cook-Bolden, M.D about African-American skin care.

While the information was obviously targeted for women of color, what we learned can be applied to all women and even men. Here are some tips Dr. Cook-Bolden shared with us to get clear, radiant, and glowing skin:

  • Determine your skin type – the first step to clearer skin is knowing your skin type. Using incorrect products can irritate the skin and cause breakouts. Look for gentle cleanser that contain Vitamins C, E and Soy. These ingredients are beneficial at breaking up pigment without being harsh on the skin and why nearly all of AMBI’s product contain one of these ingredients.
  • Try a simple, effective routine – if you are busy, a daily routine with a lot of products and steps will probably mean you are less likely to commit to doing that routine on a daily basis. To avoid hitting that bump, a simple two or three step routine is a must for long-term commitment. AMBI’s Even and Clear, including the exfoliating gentle cleanser, offer great skin protection in a manageable routine for the busy gal.
  • Whether you have fair skin or a darker complexion, SPF is a MUST – there’s a longstanding opinion that having darker skin protects you from the sun however this is not entirely accurate; as a matter of fact in the last decade the incidence of melanoma in Latinos increased by 32.4% and Melanoma in African American patients has a higher mortality. So sisters latter up! AMBI’s SPF moisturizer is specifically created for women of color, there’s no need to worry about the dreaded ashy looking face that often happens with many SPF products. This one goes on like your typical moisturizer while offering protection from the sun rays. SPF is an important step and to achieve clearer skin.
