Truth Unspoken Movie Launch Party Review
New York City is well known for its “Big Apple”, its melting pot, Wall Street, Statue of Liberty, and its talent. Talent is what you will find in this Indie short. I attended the premiere party held at Katra Lounge. This elaborate event draped all in a deep cherry red was sponsored by Mizani, Raymond Napa Valley Inc., and Irie Media Group. The attendees ranged from the cast members, media, of actors, and supportive family and friends.
“Truth Unspoken” was written, produced, directed, and starred, Ebony J Lewis as “Tracy”. Tracy is a young and attractive African-American woman involved in a “challenging” relationship in more ways than one. Tracy’s lies disrupt her love life and thus creates a volatile relationship with boyfriend, “Jay” portrayed by the dapper, Chris Howard. Also thickening the mix of the plot is Tracy’s sister, “Holly” portrayed by the gorgeous former America’s Next Top Model Cycle 4’s Keenyah Hill. The successful recording gospel artist & music producer, James Hall also made an appearance in the short as “Keith” the brother to the two eye catching sisters. The beautiful and talented, Tanda Mercer, portrays, “Renay” the rather boisterous best friend to Tracy.
Ebony J Lewis did not only select an excellent roster list of actors to take on the characters in her movie; but she also created a movie for which she was one of there official choices to be in the HBO Official Award Sponsored – Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and the Kodak Mid Atlantic Black Film Festival. Even though, Ms. Lewis didn’t take home either of the titles; she has accomplished so much for her first film (Ms. Lewis has written, produced, & directed plays previously.) EJL is definitely on her way to being a trail blazer, a pioneer in a male dominated field.
During my interview with EJL I asked her about writing the script, for “Truth Unspoken”, she wanted “To be challenged”. As EJL wrote the script she noted the enjoyment she received from the turns and twist that she created.
All in all, keep your eyes open about and your ears perked up for this film and especially for the writer, producer, director Ebony J Lewis. Lewis embodies the essence of Diana Ross & the multi facets of Spike Lee.
