Bergdorf Goodman Celebrates 111 Anniversary With A Bang
The invitation for Bergdorf Goodman’s 111 Anniversary Celebration urged guests to dress “Extraordinarily.” So they did. The resulting array of beautifully put together guests (and yes Anna Wintour made a cameo) was sort of like a “Fashion Prom.” There was even a cover band who belted out loads of classic tunes.
A sea of chauffeured cars set the tone for an extraordinary night. Women wearing a mix of sequins, long gowns and tulle dressed, paired with diamonds, pearls and stunning heels, effortlessly exited their vehicles and walked into the plaza.
Publicists, wearing black ensembles accessorized with lavender flower headbands (the color of evening), welcomed us with a warm smile before pointing us to the spiral staircase leading to the soirée. Once upstairs, the eye wondered through the energetic happenings taking place. It moved from the whimsical alligator “greeting” folks, it followed as Jason Wu, flanked by model Erin Heatherton, made a mad dash for the bar; and it temporarily rested on to the musical act before focusing on Linda Fargo with her custom print gown.
The stimulation was overwhelming but as it turned out this was just the “staging area.” The actual celebration, of course, was in the main hall of the Plaza. After waiting in the “staging area” for a few minutes the doors to the dinning area serendipitously opened. It felt like an enchanted garden with billowing clouds clouds, standing trees, and of course charming “window” displays. The magical world of Bergdorf’s came alive thanks a wonderfully designed set from designer Bronson van Wyck.
“This feels like a mosh pit,” we overheard Kelly Rutherford say of the scene that awaited her. And it was, albeit a very posh one. One truly rubbed elbows with a rarefied group of fashion types. In one section designer Prabal Gurung was spotted having a conversation with friends. In another Karolina Kurkova posed for the photographers, and moments later designer Cynthia Rowley was spotted smiling at familiar faces. At one point Zac Posen took to the dance floor with Coco Rocha. That was the ambiance for the evening – notable name after notable name (even icon Iris Apfel made an appearance – much to our delight) having a great time. They danced to the tunes of Rubix Kube and DJ Chelsea Leyland and continuously emptied the bar of champagne. The evening, naturally, also included a mandatory “Happy Birthday” singalong led by vocalist, Sasha Lazard.
Indeed it was a night like no other were the stars were too many to name so instead take a look at the massive gallery of attendees.
