Hot! GAP to Promote on Metrocards

Over the weekend the Metropolitan Transportation Authority released the first Metrocards featuring a brand as part of their latest initiative to boost revenue by selling commercial ad space. “Opening up the front of MetroCards to advertising gives the M.T.A. a new source of revenue,” Joseph J. Lhota, the authority’s chairman, explained in a news release. “We will monitor public acceptance of ads going forward to ensure that it doesn’t interfere with use of the transit system.”
The branded Metrocards featuring and ad for GAP include a coupon for a 20% discount redeemable at any store between now and November 18 on one side; and on the other side reads “Be Bright NYC” with colorful letters in a blue background. The special cards, which will be sold at select stations, also promote GAP’s newly remodeled flagship on 34th street.
