#NYFW Backstage Beauty/Hair Report: Mara Hoffman Spring 2014
Mara Hoffman’s Spring 2014 collection and its accompanying beauty look was inspired “color, light, and happiness, embracing the rainbow for it’s positivity, diversity, and ultimately, for serving as a symbol of light, love, and manifestion (sic).” The beauty team worked in concert to create a polish look with colorful accents– fit for a “rainbow warrior princess.”
On the Hair:
TIGI® Global Creative Director Nick Irwin, told us “Mara wanted a look fit for this rainbow warrior princess. So we are sort of moving the girl and becoming a bit more expensive. We are refining the look a little bit.” The look was two long braids that went past the models knees and swayed side-to-side as they walked down the runway.
The look is surprisingly simple to create and starts by prepping the hair with CATWALK® by TIGI® Curlesque Strong Mousse. After Irwin, tolds us “I used a CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series True Wax because it’s great for braiding and its keeps the flyaways in place. I then braided it down into two section.” Once the braids were in place the Nick and his team added pre-created weffs of hair to each of the braids. To prevent the braids from moving and keep them in place the team used elastic strings and CATWALK® by TIGI® Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hair spray. To make the braids modern and to secure them in place, the team added a colorful tribal woven belt. The addition helped bind the two braids together and was completed by adding CATWALK® by TIGI® Your Highness Weightless Shine.
On the Nails:
Firecraker nail guru Ms. Honey created delightful nail art that resembled a sunburst. Using stripper brush and acetone to prevent the brush from drying Honey, applied small lines of Maybelline’s “The Color Show Nail Lacquer in Orange Fix” over a layer of “Born with It,” and followed with Maybelline #440 “Clear Top.”
On the Face:
Lead Makeup Artist, Alice Lane, created a look for a woman who is “glowing, emerging, beautiful and fresh.” To do so, Lane prepped the skin with Fit Me Foundation by Maybelline (slightly darker shade than the model’s skin tone) and added Babay Lips Lip Balm. On the cheeks Lane used Dream Bouncy Blush, to give the skin a lovely coral flush. On the eyes she put of the new Color Tattoo Pure Pigments in Buff & Tuff on the lid and on the lower lash line Lane added Pink Rebel. To make the eyes pop the look was completed with a few coats of the Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes Mascara.
