Romás Spring/Summer 2011 Collection
Always inspired by the effortless sophistication of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Romás by Linda Rowe Thomas debuted her Spring/Summer 2011 collection on September 13, with an added twist. She infused the essence of “The Paris It Girl,” which was her inspiration and evident throughout the collection. Her pieces embodied fun, elegance and a practicality that all women would appreciate. It was masterfully tailored and seemed to fit into any woman’s lifestyle; from the jetsetter to the free spirit the spectrum was complete in this collection. I’m sure the stars of RHWNY, Alex McCord & husband Simon Van Kampen who sat front row, would agree.
It was clear from the first piece that Linda Rowe Thomas understands the woman’s body. She believes in simplicity in a way where each woman could add their own unique twist as depicted on Furonda Brasfield of America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 6. Linda enjoys producing ready-to-wear clothing as she endeavors to cover a wide range of taste, while keeping true to her personal aesthetic in every piece. This collection had a very rich jeweled tone color palette of purples & blues with an array of silks that added movement to the gowns. Although silk can be very difficult to use, Linda prides herself in that choice. She loves using raw silk and charmeuse as she feels it adds to the Parisian chíc she intended this collection to encompass. You may say that this collection doesn’t seem to show anything that hasn’t already been done, but that is what makes it so viable yet charming. It’s the enhancement of the classics that Linda wanted to convey and knowing that this fundamental quality will always be a mainstay in fashion; she wanted to create pieces that transcend time.
At the close of the show, when the designer comes out to take a bow, I was admittedly surprised at the person that graced the stage. Having not met Linda prior to viewing the show, my opinion about the collection was already set in my mind. However, I was even more impressed when the woman who walked out with unwavering confidence & poise, was facially disfigured and absent one hand, caused by a house fire in her younger years. Now a mother and career woman, she is living her dream which she had since she was 6 years old. This self taught designer was always very passionate about fashion and brought her dream to fruition in 2001 when she founded her company Romás and launched the ready-to-wear line a few years later. She is truly an inspiration to all who have doubts that their own dreams could come true. Her courage & drive is beyond remarkable and I can attest to the most basic of truths; that you can achieve anything if you believe it. Having met Linda Rowe Thomas will forever leave a lasting impression on me; not only by her beautiful spirit, but her undeniable talent which was evident in this collection.
