#NYFW: Milly Spring 2015 Beauty Report
Along with Milly’s Spring 2015 runway collection, which had a lineup of transparent textures, the theme continued on backstage with hair, makeup and nails.
The black tie turban was the main attraction backstage. Before this urban chic look was achieved, Mark Carrasquillo from Beauty.com, walked us through how to get the look underneath. Start with clean hair and blow dry using with the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Dryer and PHYTO Phytolague Soie Hairspray. Calm hair down at the ends with the T3 SinglePass, Straightening & Styling Iron, but keep the natural wave of the hair. Create texture in the hair with PHYTO9 Nourishing Day Cream. Finish off with PHYTO’s Professional Workable Holding Hairspray. The hair wrap is a single piece of fabric wrapped around twice with the noticeable knot on top. Carrasquillo said, “It’s fashion forward but so organic.”
on the face, Carrasquillo used Kevin Aucoin Cosmetics to create a rosy-cheeked British girl with freckly summer sun kissed look. Carrasquillo said he wanted a “healthy, natural and honest opened face.” The main attraction was the artificial freckles. “A model walked in with a bit of natural freckling, so I jumped on it. Just at the bridge of the nose and cheeks. You know when you stop when it starts to look cartoon-y.” said Carrasquillo . To get this effect, use Kevin Aucoin’s Precision Brow Pencil in Dark Brunette and lightly place around the bridge of your nose and across your cheeks. Carrasquillo used a taupey shadow wrapped around the eyes for definition and Kevin Aucoin’s Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Medium on top of their Sensual Lip Balm.
Katie Hughes from butter LONDON bared all as well with what she called “the mannequin nails”. This nail look is exactly what you think it is. Hughes says, “the main idea for this look is to have the nails blend in with the skin. Creating a very doll-like look.” To achieve this look, the butter LONDON team first applied a coat of Yummy Mummy; a beige that matches just about every skin color. Then they applied a layer of butter LONDON’s Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat. Hughes explains science behind the nail foundation saying “ this is a vey unique product that leaves a silky, matte finish when used alone. But when applied with a polish, it provides a beautiful, smooth surface. It is like a cover-up or foundation make-up for nails.”
