Rosa Cha Spring/Summer 2009
The vibe was sexy sophisticated. Alexandre Herchcovitch, the Brazilian brand’s new creative director, was inspired by the elegance of lingerie and it was palpable. On the collection Mr. Herchcovitch states, “It’s all about construction. I wanted to really rethink the shapes and forms of swimwear.” And, it show as the collection consisted of well-made beachwear such as triangle tops, classic one piece swimsuits and varied cover-up items – including dresses, blouses, jumpsuits, and high-rise pants. Herchcovitch was not afraid to add his architectural spirit into the collection and the results were beautiful. He played with chambray, polka dots, black and white stripes, pops of bright orange and yellow, as well as plenty of layering. The crystal appliqué had a luxurious effect.
If you’re a woman looking for interesting cool pieces that take you from the beach or poolside to the soiree that may ensue, this spring collection is for you. As for the models that worked the runway, it was very refreshing to see beauty in many shades; With new current hot model Chanel Iman opening the show to rounds of applause by the excited crowd. Lack of racial diversity was not a problem at this show. Sean Paul was in the house and clearly appreciated all the beauty. His rock star shades did not remain on his smiling face for long. Kudos to Rosa Chá. It’s 2009. Perhaps it’s time for other designers to follow suit so runways can reflect a broader view of the world.
