#NYFW: À MOI Spring/Summer 2015
Show: À MOI Spring/Summer 2015
Inspiration: Designer Alejandra (Alex) Alonso was inspired by her ancestral past – the collection, “Reflections,” is a statement of rejecting the conventional and creating something new. The coastal color palette drew influence from Alonso’s family tradition of vacationing in Biarritz for the summers.

What We Thought:
Stepping into The Line NYC for À MOI Spring/Summer 2015, we were transported to coastal, summertime and the livin’ is easy France. Drawing influence from Biarritz (known internationally as a place of prestige for surfing), the collection clearly plucked its colors from the seaside life, which included foam white, powdery sky blue, and nautical, royal blue. Each piece combined a variety of cool and relaxed elements with structure by way of pleats, straight-line skirts, and tailored suits. In experiencing the presentation, we imagined ourselves just getting out of the ocean with hair touched by salt and sun. Pleated coulottes and fitted open back tops would be classy choices for an outdoor lunch in the seaside town, while the oversized pullover look would be an easy and comfy thing to slip on to keep warm on cooler coastal nights.
It’s clear that in designing for SS 2015, Alonso truly paid homage to the carefree, spirited, and active feelings she had while vacationing with her family over the years. Perhaps one of her favorite choices made during the creation of this collection: the inclusion of oil slick leather, which was inspired by her memories of seeing fish scales in the beautiful Biarritz waters. Ultimately, À MOI Spring/Summer 2015 was a personal invitation into Alonso’s beloved summer memories and left us yearning for the chance to experience the coveted destination of Biarritz ourselves. For now, the clothes will certainly do!
