#NYFW: Katie Gallagher SS 2015
Show: Katie Gallagher Spring/Summer 2015
Inspiration: Titled “Fantasm,” the collection is an ode to the notion of something that exists in perception only. The central theme focused on colorlessness and the impermanent nature of things – like seeing dew or smoke just before they disappear into transparency.
Makeup: Romero Jennings for MAC Cosmetics; Hair: Nick Irwin for TIGI; Nails: Jami Zoglio for Hair Room Service; Shoes: Crown by Born; Shoe Adornments & Rings: Hadria x Katie Gallagher
What We Thought:
Hosted at The Line NYC at the High Line Hotel, Fantasm was introduced through a runway show followed by a presentation on display. We adored the experience of being able to witness the garments in motion as well as view the details up close. While the pieces were delicate in nature, the lines and tailoring of the silhouettes left no doubt that the eerie kind of beauty in this collection is to be worn by a woman in total command of her own confidence. The “peekaboo” elements (from bodysuits to see-through tops) were a stark contrast to other offerings down the line that had models’ covered up much more conservatively from head to toe. The literal transparency of much of Fantasm played well to the idea of temporal being – fabric seemed to drape over the models like a veil of smoke.
As for the color palette, the progression from black, to neutrals, to white reminded us of how we experience phenomenon like smoke: concentrate in color at first before it disappears. Katie Gallagher SS 2015 definitely remained true to brand and a lovely progression of vision from the designer’s previous collections. Can we also add that we had so much appreciation for how comfortable the shoes (sometimes paired with socks) looked? The lack of the typical Fashion Week heel was a breath of fresh air and only further embodied the effortlessly, eerily pretty nature of the collection.
