Sneak Peek: Lafayette 148 New York
Lafayette 148 New York recently unveiled their the Fall 2011 collection. Obviously, we’ve got sneak peek images of the vibrant clothes. The collection was conceived by Edward Wilkerson, the brands Creative Director who by the way also happens to be a member of the CFDA.
This collection says Wilkerson “is a modern translation of my recent passage to India.” He explains, “faraway places and the unique style they embody have always inspired me creatively and emotionally.” As a result he explains “its rich color and ornate spirit seep through in gorgeous fashion. Vegetable dyes, pungent spices and jeweled tones entice. Rich camels and khakis become the new neutrals. Bengal-inspired fur prints and sumptuous shearlings carry the exotic. British raj touches, sari influences, and striking accessories wrap on the collection.”
Obviously, Wilkerson doesn’t stray far away from its core aesthetic. One would assume this done so as to not overwhelm core customers. Still, the collection features touches that redefined and update signature styles; such as adding leather piping on pants and dresses, or adding a slight burst of color on a black cape. The silhouettes are classic with asymmetrical accents that makes. So the pieces look modern with just the right amount of sexy that is not overdone. The collection will satisfy loyalists but will also pique the interest of new costumers who are looking for pieces which can easily transition from work to evenings on town.
Lafayette 148 New York, which offers a wide array of sizes including Plus-Size, can be purchase stores at specialty stores and major retailers such as Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales.
