Hot! Holiday Away? Here’s What You Need to Do Before You Go

Summer is here, and it’s time to jet off to your dream destination – but before you rush off into the sunset, there are a few things you need to do to make sure you’ve got peace of mind while you’re away – here are our top four.

1.Hit the Shops

This one is probably one of the more fun items on our list – before you go anywhere, you’ll need to venture out onto the high street to pick up some holiday essentials! It’s always worth getting some new clothes, but make sure to check the weather – you don’t want to be packing shorts if you’re off to Finland! It’s also worth looking for other important items, such as sunscreen (if you’re going somewhere hot, of course), as well as some toiletries. Make sure these are small if you’re flying, so they make it through the airport – you don’t want to splash out on some fancy makeup to get it confiscated at security! There’s nothing wrong with buying a few accessories either – some noise-canceling earbuds wouldn’t go amiss on a busy plane, and something like a Kindle is a good way to keep yourself occupied during the quieter moments, whether that’s traveling on a train, lounging on the beach or getting ready to fall asleep.

2. Fill Out the Paperwork

We know the point of a holiday is to get away from the paperwork, but before you go, there are some important documents you need to arrange in advance to make sure there are no slip-ups while you’re away. Things like passports and visas seem obvious, but then things like travel insurance (both for you and also your gadgets), as well as any vaccinations you may need to get are easily forgotten. To find the best travel insurance, check a comparison site online. If you’re planning on renting a car, it’s also important to make sure you bring along your driving license – another thing easily left in the bedside drawer!

3. Keep Your Home Secure

Holidays may be for escaping reality, but it’s important to make sure when you come back home, nothing has been stolen or destroyed. As well as making sure to unplug everything, to lock away any valuables you’ve left behind and to clear out the fridge (we don’t want any moldy food now), you want to make sure your house is safe from anyone who may be thinking about making a cheap buck off of your valuable possessions.

Getting a security system if you haven’t already got one is your best bet – having an alarm at home will make sure to deter any potential thieves, and surveillance cameras will help to catch those who get a bit too close for comfort. Most nowadays also have mobile features, including notifications to your phone as well as viewing your property at any time. This means you can check back on your house at any time, as well as be aware of any break-ins, just in case. You can find out online which is the best security system for you. It’s also wise to tell a trusted neighbor about your trip so that they can keep watch over your house and be there quickly should the worst happen.

4. Make Those Reservations

It may sound silly, but making sure to book everything in advance is something most of us struggle with – it’s very easy to forget that one thing you told yourself you’d remember to do. Hopefully, you’ve remembered your hotels and flight tickets, but the main thing most people tend to forget is booking the attractions. If you’ve got your eye on a particular landmark, you may want to see if it’s possible to book your ticket in advance. Not only does this prevent you going on a day when it’s too busy or even closed, but it also allows you to pass the long queues that are certain to build up, especially during the summer months. You also need to make sure to book your rental car if needed, any train tickets or bus tickets to and from the airport, as well as to the city or town and the hotel. If you don’t, you could end up stranded – not a good situation to be in.

Take this advice and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying your holiday as it should be – stress-free, care-free and one to remember for the right reasons. Don’t forget the selfies!
