Oxygen Celebrates Travis Wall’s “All the Right Moves” with a Dance Workshop
Dressed in sports bras and leggings, we were pumped to attend the All the Right Moves Dance Workshop yesterday in celebration of the fantastic new series. It was a bit intimidating – it hearkened the days in our early twenties when we all attempted to be professional dancers by gracing the Broadway Dance Center studios a few times a week. We’ve all been there. This time, class was in the new midtown location, and with the less than intimidating and positively delightful choreographer Travis Wall. The familiar count-in of 5-6-7-8 got us further pumped and ready to bust a move!
We expected class to consist of a rum punch drowned group of housewives flailing about beneath a disco ball, but this was serious business. Travis was focused on delivering precise yet fun choreography to dancers and non-dancers alike.
“The whole reason is to keep people moving and have fun,” said Travis. Intimidation was immediately dissipated.
All The Right Moves Chronicles The Journey of Travis Wall, an Emmy nominated choreographer, along with his three closest friends Teddy, Nick, and Kyle as they work painstakingly to launch Shaping Sound Dance Company. And it all starts with auditions for their amazing preview dance show.
As if a journey like that isn’t exciting enough…
“It was really crazy because we were figuring out everything as the cameras were watching us. We actually learned so much about really starting a business. So you see us go through challenges and you see us set really high goals for ourselves,” Travis explained.
It was apparent that the process of artistic development was an important element in this choreographer’s method. Travis was focused and poised, actively interacting with class participants by teaching and demonstrating. His teaching style is an incisive allusion to the upcoming season on All the Right Moves.
“I learned more about directing and putting a show together – having the curtain open and having it close and making your point clear,” he said.
We are totally tuning in this today Tuesday, July 31 at 9/8c! Who knows, maybe we can rekindle some lost NYC dancer dreams of our early twenties!
