Z Best is Yet to Come
Shaunya Hartley – Long Island City is getting sexier and sleeker thanks to the recently opened Z hotel. If you’re a native New Yorker like me, the LIC of your childhood is more industrial than glam. However, in the past ten years, the area has seen a remake with the addition of stunning condos, amazing nightlife and a major cultural influx with MOMA’s PS 1. The area is now a trendy destination with artists as well as corporate behemoth Citigroup. So, the timing is right on the money for the opening of the Z hotel, a luxe boutique hotel that is giving Manhattan a run for its money.
Owner Henry Zilbermanand designer Andre Escobar worked closely to give the Z a stylish yet eclectic look. With floor to ceiling windows in all 100 of the rooms lending to unobstructed views of the East River, guests will literally feel like they’re on top of the world. Added touches such as shuttle service to Manhattan, free international calls and a stunning rooftop bar that on my visit had a brick oven cranking out the ultimate New York food, pizza. The destination has a lot of Manhattan’s glamour but with an outer borough price point.
The location maybe a little desolate but with a rooftop that reminds you of South Beach, rooms with jaw dropping views and a knowledgeable and attractive staff, the Z hotel in Long Island City is sure to become a major destination for visitors and New Yorkers.
