TFF: The Canadian Film Centre Party At Bubble Lounge
Champagne, wine and beer were flowing from the open bar at Bubble Lounge Thursday night in celebration for the Canadian Film Centre and their welcome to the Tribeca Film Festival. Guests nibbled on penne pesto with asparagus and strawberries dipped in warmed semi-sweet dark chocolate as they listened to Barry Patterson, director of marketing & communications at the CFC, talk about the centre and it’s contributions to film and television to the world.
The Canadian Film Centre’s goal is to “…craft truly collaborative television dramas with universal storytelling themes that overcome the inherent challenges of co-productions, which Canadians pioneered,” states Christine Shipman, senior VP of TV drama and factual content at Canwest Broadcasting. The CFC was proud to celebrate the two original series “Flashpoint” on CBS and “The Listener” on NBC, both spawned in Canada. Collaborating with international partners to develop and produce product for international sale is familiar territory for Canadians and also an area that they look forward to expanding financially, technically, and dramatically. Patterson, also highlighted the CFC’s partnering with the National Film Board of Canada to foster a new generation of documentary filmmakers.
Tamir Muhammad, program manager for Tribeca All Access stated “the CFC and Tribeca are similar in aiming to match working filmmakers from under-represented communities with industry mentors and networking opportunities.” There will be so many more thrilling things to come from the Canadian Film Centre, keep a look out.
