Pantone’s Newest Color is Inspired by Minions… Yes, Minions
By Minions, we mean the silly popcorn kernel-looking creatures from the Despicable Me movies. And yes, this is serious. Pantone has introduced a new color, its first in three years, and it is very literally titled “Minion Yellow.”
Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at the Pantone Color Institute®, describes the color as one that “heightens awareness and creates clarity, lighting the way to the intelligence, originality and the resourcefulness of an open mind – this is the color of hope, joy and optimism.”
This is also the first time that Pantone has named a color after a character. Minion Yellow was developed in partnership with the team at Illumination to ensure it embodies the aura of the lovable and comedic Minions. The color will be added to Pantone’s Fashion, Home and Interiors color palette with the next color addition. Meanwhile, we are counting down to July 10, 2015, when the Minions movie opens in theaters.
