Hot! Secrets To Glowing Skin Before Your Big Day

At some point, most online buyers have read something on the internet about a product claiming the ability to “reverse” age you. There are so many articles and soundbites that claim a variety of ingredients “eradicate wrinkles,” give you “glass skin” with zero clinical research support. Every time you read a claim like that, look up the mentioned miracle ingredient and find peer-reviewed, scientific articles that support the company’s “reverse aging” hypothesis. If it doesn’t, it’s merely marketing to sell the product.

If you’re anticipating a big day, like your wedding, and you want your skin to look its best, then trust the tried and tested ingredients backed by science. Besides finding the perfect wedding dress, leave some room in your wedding budget for the best skin care products that can give you a healthy, and glowing canvas. Look for products with these ingredients:

  1. An AHA or BHA exfoliant

This one comes with a warning. Like all good things, do not indulge in exfoliating! Trust me, you’re not going to like the results if you do. Chemical exfoliants tend to be better than physical exfoliants because they aren’t abrasive to the skin barrier. Chemical exfoliants vary in their function on your skin and fall into one of three categories: AHA, BHA, and PHA. Make sure that you use the exfoliant that is best for your unique skin type and concerns. If you’re unsure, search some of your questions online such as, how often should you exfoliate your face or what ingredients should I use only on my face? In general, you want to limit this to around 2-3 times a week, and if you’re just starting out, then maybe try it around 1-2 times a week at a low percentage. Exfoliant helps slough off the dead skin cells and leaves room for new, fresh skin. It is also proven to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and lighten acne scars!

  1. A Retinol

As we get older, especially when we get into our 30s, our cell turnover rate slows down. A great remedy for that is Retinol, Retinoid, or Retin-A, which are all derivatives of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is clinically proven to help improve texture and fine lines in the skin by increasing your cell turnover rate, it’s also great for improving acne and acne scars. If you want to incorporate a vitamin A serum or cream, make sure to do it on the nights you aren’t exfoliating to avoid irritation after permission from your dermatologist. If you’re starting out on Retinols, start slow, and ease your way in by applying at night every other day, at a low percentage like .25%. Slather on SPF in the morning because Retinoids make your skin extra sensitive to the sun.

  1. A hydrating moisturizer

Moisturizer is the unsung hero of supple, plump, and glowing skin. Much of the allure of skincare is taken hostage by serums, toners, and fancy essences, but never underestimate the value of a good moisturizer because it plays a key role in how your skin handles environmental free radicals, weather changes, and bacteria. A fortified skin barrier is one that’s hydrated. As we age, our skin also gets drier, so find a moisturizer that is packed with moisture-retaining ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, or propolis, along with skin barrier strengthening ingredients like ceramides.

Exfoliants, Retinoids, and Hydration. This is the proven trio to help improve skin texture, fight against acne, and slow down the aging process. Incorporate these into your skincare routine and you are sure to see a return on skincare investment. Commit to these for at least 3 months to see noticeable results!
