J.Crew Fall 2013
Patterns, embellishment and bold color swept across J.Crew’s Fall 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week.
The collection was an effortless blend of perfect contrasts. It mixed and matched deep hues with neon color and graphic print with classic embroidery. Most notably was J.Crew’s blend of sportswear with its signature tailored style.
The collection, Tom Mora, head of women design at J.Crew, explained was inspired by a trip to Morocco or rather “Marrakech by way of Newport.” In the offerings Mora captured the spirit of his travel through the richness of each garment all while adapting the clothing to serve the brands preppy Americana.
J.Crew aficionados can expect staple trousers, pencil skirts, structured jackets and blazers. The J.Crew team also stayed close to their usual heavy wools and cashmere adding a splash of denim and polyester.
Besides the vibrant shades of color and print, a refreshing element to the collection’s fall landscape was the inclusion of elaborate sparkle. Jeweled embellishment was craftily added to everything from baseball hats, skirts and blouses. This fused well with the line’s chunky jeweled necklaces and brooches. Not only does it add glam to the drab of the fall season but it also lends a couture element in a way we haven’t seen before. —Melanie Castell
