Christian Siriano Fall 2012
SHOW: Christian Siriano Fall 2012
INSPIRATION: “…bats and specifically the ’30s film The Vampire Bat. These flying demons of the night intrigue me with their creepy, dark and dramatic presence, as well as the intricate details of their veins and the bone structure of their wings. I find beauty in the wings of the bat, which can be seen in the details of the clothing — leather appliqués, ethereal flowing silk crepe dresses, tops and capes taking flight…The grainy nature of the old film inspired the color palate and the modern prints seen throughout the entire collection.”
FRONT ROW: Brad Goreski,Cindy Adams,Gabourey Sidibe, Leigh Lezark, Mena Suvari, Nina Dobrev, Isabelle Fuhrman
HAIR: Aveda; MAKEUP: Mac Cosmetics
WHAT WE THOUGHT: It’s no secret Siriano has experienced growing pain as he attempts to establish his name as a bonafide designer. On one hand, Siriano, has to create ensemble to satisfy his fans but that buyers want to purchase. His past collections (and we are big fans), while decidedly gorgeous, were not particularly wearable for the masses. With this Fall 2012 collection, Siriano, demonstrated that he is able to design clothes for the a wider range of customers. He got it right.
This collection was somewhat muted for Siriano with mostly gray, black, and white pieces but given his inspiration “bats” not entirely surprising. The pieces included stunning leather jackets, trousers, and a strong selection of body-hugging shift dresses. The silhouettes contemporary and slimming, with some glamorous designs peeking through in his evening gown selection which consisted mostly of sheared tulle ruffles. Highlights included (and as expected) the last set of evening gown with tulle ruffles.
