#NYFW: Jay Godfrey Fall 2014
For the first time Jay Godfrey, a Toronto native but New York City denizen, debuted his fall collection during New York City’s fashion week. The collection which features looks that are decidedly rock-roll– including dark hued clothes, lots of fringe, vegan leather pants and jackets, is different than what we’ve come to expect from the designer.
“I was inspired by the offspring of these rockers…Theodora Richards, Zoe Kravitz, Peaches Geldof, Steven Tyler’s kids,” he told us backstage. “They grew up with everything, and you would expect a very Uptown-feeling personal style, but they really developed their own personal style and sensibility as they came of age.” The inspiration was evident–the looks while polish had a slightly downtown feel reminiscing of the 1970’s. A juxtaposition that worked so well. Included in the collection are cleverly designed jackets and blazers featuring mixed textures, with rocker appropriate details such as stud and zipper accents, and flashy of metallic sequins.
