Monique Lhuillier RTW Fall 2013
Show: Monique Lhuillier RTW Fall 2013
Inspiration: The designer told Elle, “It all started when I was looking at her malachite dress. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to put this in the collection!’ Then I decided to paint the [runway] backdrop that color because it feels so opulent and so inviting. And I wanted to build on that, so I added more jewel tones for the evening portion and, of course, black—because who doesn’t want to wear black in the fall? Then I wanted to create the absence of color in the beginning of the show, which is why I did all those winter whites.”
Hair: Odile Gilbert for Kérastase Paris; Makeup: Val Garland for MAC Cosmetics; Nails: Michelle Saunders for Essie
What We Thought:
We were mesmerized by the malachite green backdrop and runway from the start. Then the show kicked off with gorgeous white knits and we thought “hmm, how will the looks progress during this show?” To our delight, the collection featured deep hues of a range of colors including fiery reds, burgundy, and malachite green (who can forget). We know we’re not the only ones who recognize a handful of stunning pieces that are just begging (and rightfully so) to be worn on the red carpet sometime in the near future. From evening gowns and coats to less formal dresses and blouses, Monique Lhuillier RTW Fall 2013 pulls together just stunning embroidery details and a selective but sophisticated use of lace.
Check out our backstage hair report for details on the creation of a sexy, suede chignon created by the Kérastase team. To add a touch of drama on the face, Val Garland for MAC created a thick, broken line around the eyes- talk about edge! On the nails, one coat of Essie’s ice-gray Over The Top shade was used on the hands. For the feet, Stylenomics, an extremely deep green (that could be mistaken for black before closer inspection) was selected to help draw attention to the shoes featured in the collection.
