Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Celebrates a “Decade of Style”
Last week (on Thursday, February 3) after a trilogy of events that included stops at Jurlique, H2O, and Mauboussin, we headed to the Bowery Hotel. The fashionable hotel was the chosen locale for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation event to celebrate a “Decade of Style.” The funky hotel saw a bevy of very good-looking fashionistas who gathered to congratulate this years winners.
Attendees enjoyed specialty labeled wine from the Ecco Domani Foundation as they viewed the dresses from the winners – Bibhu Mohaptra, M. Patmos, Mandy Coon, Pamela Love, T Native Son, Study NY and The Lake & Stars. In midst of all the beautiful clothes and decidedly well-dressed crowd we managed to snag a quick interview with, Bibhu Mohapatra, an Indian native a one of this year lucky winner – he was chosen from 150 entries.
On his win, the designer shared “it means a lot, as a support and recognition that I got tonight[February 3] it’s actually propelling me forward. I am really excited to put that much more into my product. Realistically speaking the funds from this award all went into my product and my show. I’m very excited and fortunate.”
He also explained how his time in India influenced his design style adding “it seeps through in unexpected manners through colors, textures, and techniques but blended and infused with contemporary Western styles and shapes and body types. Most of the time that influence is not that literal but its very subtle and it helps me to see things a little differently.”
In addition to our chat with Bibhu Mohapatra , we also got a chance to speak with Robert Verdi (who ran the show) and stylist June Ambrose. Other notables in attendance included, Sally Singer, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, Kim Hastreiter, Mandy Coon, and fashion calendar (AKA the fashion bible) founder Ruth Finley.
