Hot! Sotheby’s Annual Art of Farming Celebrates Local Sustainable Food

This past Wednesday, Sotheby’s Auction House hosted the second annual Art of Farming  event, showcasing edible art and auctioning off food and drink experiences to benefit GrowNYC and The Sylvia Center at Katchkie Farm. The event was held in the lovely Sotheby’s banquet hall where guests were first treated to an open bar cocktail hour with delightful local hors d’oeuvres by Rouge Tomate and wines provided by various New York state wineries. We were intrigued by the surprisingly refreshing Smarteani – a Tavlon Tea Cocktail made of Chinese White, German Peppermint and Korean Plum teas mixed with a touch of vodka. Yum! The cocktail hour was followed by a lavish meal featuring special dishes by a line-up of prominent chefs and restaurants known for their farm-to-table cuisine.

“The Art of Farming  auction and dinner at Sotheby’s represents a new level of commitment to sustainable agriculture and good earth practices while supporting and celebrating local flavors,” says Liz Neumark, Founder and CEO of Great Performances.

Auction items included fantastic food and drink experiences including celebrity chef dinners, wine country getaways, and unique farm photography and artwork. Leading up to the event, GrowNYC operated a weekly Tuesday community greenmarket right outside Sotheby’s New York.
