What We Thought:
One of our favorite moments from Fashion Week happened at this show: after appearing on the runway for his bow, the self-taught designer took a moment to stand front and center with his back to the audience to get a shot of his namesake “AUGUST GETTY ATELIER” on his phone. He then playfully poked his head out for a second after he had left the stage. Talk about leaving an impression on the NYFW scene for his debut show.
As for the show itself – Whoopi Goldberg was spotted front row alongside her granddaughter taking in the variety of structured suits and figure hugging dresses in the collection that contained a peppering of soft pink, lilac, and neutrals (which Getty played up with metallic finishes and lace detailing).
We’re quite sure we audibly gasped when we spotted the serenely lovely, lilac mini dress and floor length pink gown pictured above. The movement of the fabric in each was goddess-like, and exhibited the young designer’s appreciation for layering and depth in otherwise simply classic pieces. Even across the highly structural ensembles (like the black lace cupcake dress), the collection seems to skew towards the taste of a younger crowd, exuding a strong, youthful spirit in the abundance of mini dresses — especially with the approach to skip accessories altogether in the styling of the show. We look forward to keeping our eye on what’s next for August Getty.
