#NYFW: Laurel DeWitt SS 2016 Backstage Recap
Designer Laurel DeWitt‘s ornate craft of converting metal materials into regal fashion and costume pieces is always one to watch. This season, we were excited to see her incorporation of bright hues into the mix, as well as remarkably delicate, hand-cut metal flowers. To match the aura of the Spring/Summer 2016 collection, renowned U.K. celebrity stylist Tara Smith and her team created a glam, retro-inspired look for the hair. Bodacious, voluminous curls swept the scene – more than a handful of the models had long locks to be envious of (and quite the work required to curl it all!). We chatted with Smith backstage about how the look was brought to life with her vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free line of products.
Step by step:
#1: Start by applying Tara Smith Base Coat Serum from mid-length to ends of hair to add shine, block out frizz, and protect hair from heat damage.
#2: If you have fine hair, apply Tara Smith Brilliant Thickening Cream to the length of the hair to add thickness and volume.
#3: Create a deep part in hair, sectioning off hair in two distinct parts.
#4: With a wide barrel curling iron (1.5” recommended), begin to tightly curl hair as you would with a roller. Wrap barrel around strands by starting at the end of the hair and up to the root.
#5: After a curl is released from the iron, run your fingers through to extend it. Wrap it from the end to root and secure to the head with a bobby pin to create ‘pin curls.’
#6: Once all of the hair is curled and pinned, spray with Tara Smith Shining Moment Glosser and allow to fully cool down and set.
#7: Unpin hair and gently go over curls with a soft bristle brush to create a wave effect.
#8: Finally, mix the Base Coat Serum with Tara Smith Rock On Hard Gel and run through hair for a set finish that will hold all day.
