What We Thought:
The show for LIE SANGBONG Spring/Summer 2015 was a dream to experience, even before any of the models hit the runway. The runway was constructed as an installation of 1,188 glass tiles (created in collaboration with Korean sculptor and installation artist Jang Seung Hyo), each containing motifs and prints from the collection. Spring/Summer 2015 is titled “Dream Road,” full of beautifully crisp white and blues that evoke a bright sky with fluffy clouds, and butterfly imagery that pays tribute to spring, the newness of things, and remembrance.
The designer pulled his ideas for this collection from a sad place – he was stirred by the tragic capsizing of a South Korean ferry that took the lives of young students in his native South Korea earlier this year. In an effort to transform such sadness into a celebration of hope and strength, Mr. Lie packed his latest collection with strong, architectural construction and a buffet of luxurious fabrics. In its dreamy state, LIE SANGBONG Spring/Summer 2015 is a colorful and powerful ode to the triumph of hope. The first look to appear on the runway was an angelic white, and as the progression of the show introduced more colors, it finished strong (literally) with a dress whose construction is reminiscent of armor.
We are beyond excited that LIE SANGBONG will be opening its first American boutique right here in NYC (30 Gansevoort Street) this month – plenty of time before the Spring/Summer 2015 pieces hit all of its retailers in March 2015.
