#NYFW: Desigual SS 2016 Backstage Recap
“You aren’t just one woman during the day — so look the part. Women, like a city, are ever-changing and endlessly alluring.”
No matter the venue, Desigual always brings the fun to NYFW. Calling the beauty look behind Spring/Summer 2016 playful would be an understatement – to keep up with the electrifying and free-spirited nature of the new collection, the makeup and hair teams had their work cut out for them. Here’s what you need to know from our time with them backstage.
Gordon Espinet and the MAC team pumped things up a notch with a fiery orange lip… and it wasn’t as simple as applying an orange lipstick on its own. Lips were lined with a slightly lighter color (MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in “What a Blast”) and either “So Chaud” or “Morange” lipstick was applied. The finishing touch was the addition of neon orange pigment. A soft peachy flush on the cheeks complemented this confidently.
Brows and eyes were kept subtle – with brows being lightly filled in to add shape to the natural brows. A MAC 266 Small Angle Brush was dipped into Black Track Gel Liner to create a thin sweep along the lash line with a small wing on the end.
“Inspired by the style of Japanese streetwear”
Edward Lampley and the amika team ran an admirably calm and collected operation (seriously – it was one of the chillest backstages we’ve been to). Their hands were quite busy – prepping hair to then be constructed and twisted into graphic rows of braids. There were two variations on the braided look based on whether models were wearing out-of-this-world headpieces or headphones in the show. Through it all, the three key products Lampley called out in helping to create the look were amika’s Bombshell Blowout Spray, Un.Done Texture Spray, and Perk Up Dry Shampoo. amika’s amazing heat protection products were also on hand, including a leave-in conditioner and its Heat Defense Serum (one of our personal favorites for everyday hair care).
Plus, an added bonus of amika’s core sea buckthorn berry ingredient — in an environment where backstage beauty prep typically involves an air thick with hair spray, Desigual’s backstage smelled really really good.
