#NYFW: 60 Seconds With Katie Gallagher
In addition to the Spring 2014 designer inspiration sketches, we’re also bringing back our “60 Seconds” Q&A with today’s design stars. This Fashion Week, get to know a little more about Katie Gallagher.
The Fabulous Report (TFR): Where did you find inspiration for this collection?
Katie Gallagher: Bloom is inspired by powder pink carnation flowers (I call them funeral flowers) and Einsturzende Neubauten’s song called Blume. The lyrics, as well as the video. Something about being beautiful but only on the outside, wanting to look a certain way, so someone will love you. I did a series of carnation paintings as a study to understand my inspiration for this season as well as the color palette.
TFR: Did you go anywhere fun this summer?
KG: I did! I went to New Orleans for about two weeks. I went to Miami. I went to the Rockways a lot too with my friend, Larissa.
TFR: Since back to school season is starting. Let’s talk about that. Do you remember your favorite first day of school outfit. If so what did you wear?
KG: Yes. But it’s the first day of pre-school that remember. I wore pigtails, a yellow rain jacket, blue cotton shorts and the best part was a name tag in the shape of a duck around my neck.
TFR: Looking forward to the return of any shows?
KG: Nope. I dont even have a TV.
TFR: Lastly, what’s your favorite cocktail?
KG: Gin and soda with cucumbers and lime.
