LAIO Art Presents Sustainable High End Fashion
LAIO Art premiered its exhibit of sustainable, high-end fashion artwear, and we were absolutely intrigued. Gracing the space of a hip art gallery in the Meatpacking District, it was obvious that this event was attended only by the cool kids. Guests were welcomed with bubble wrap in lieu of a red carpet. So we strategically placed ourselves in a spot with a great view of guests entering the space, where they reacted anywhere from surprised to delightfully amused at the poping plastic beneath their feet. *giggles*
“I was thinking about using them as the runway, but then I though oh my God it’s so funny, and people will remember – it sticks in your mind and people will recycle.” –Tatiana Pagés
The jewelry was displayed on a “floating runway” hanging from the ceiling on hangers that allowed for each piece to revolve so that guests could view them from multiple angles. A mural also featured pieces among quotes reinforcing the theme of the entire exhibit: sustainability.
The entire LAIO collection was handcrafted from reclaimed items such as soda can tops and the plastic rings from soda packaging. That’s one hell of a fashion statement! What’s more: 60% of each item sold will benefit AID FOR AIDS, an organization committed to providing services to communities at risk of HIV and the global population at large
