Hot! Gallery Announcing: The Marina Abramovic Institute

Famed performance artist Marina Abramovic celebrated the announcement of the Marina Abramovic Institute for the Preservation of Performance Art (MAI) on May 7 at MoMA PS 1 by unveiling the design for the new facility.

Architectural firm OMA is tasked with transforming what once was a tennis-center-turned-antiques-warehouse into a structure that includes ramps, specially designed lighting and furniture, and more in the 23,000 square foot space located in Hudson, NY.

What can we expect? The opening of the facility is slated for late 2014, and will be what Abramovic herself deems part art center, part school – an undertaking to blur the line between artist and viewer through a mix of film, opera, music, dance, and theater performances. Check out the photos below for more… and yes, everyone will be donning crisp, white lab coats.
