Talbots Fall 2011
Much like Spring/Summer 2011, the Fall 2011 collection from Talbots demonstrates the brands attempt to reach a larger audience and target a younger demographic.
For its Fall 2011, Talbots drew inspiration from 1940 Old Hollywood and Katherine Hepburn; as such “everything is more refined and dressed up,” explained Michael Smaldone, chief creative officer for Talbots.
Refined this collection definitely is and what’s more it creatively hits many of the season’s trends. The silhouettes are flirty, the dresses are flowing, the accessories are shiny (in the best way), with soft pleating details peppered throughout, in classic work staples colors such as black, grey and white as well as more daring colors such as baccara rose (Lavender), and cyan (teal); though what truly set this collection apart from similar retailers is Talbots take on the “boyfriend” inspired trend and best seen in the Hepburn-esque pinstripe three-piece suit, a vision of perfection and masculine infused femininity. Along with the pinstripe suit other standout pieces include-in the dresses the silk georgette dress ($179), the feather dress ($399) and the beaded dress ($399); in the accessories- the stingray front-pocket tote ($349) and the Beacon Hill croc tote ($350), and we just love the skyla suede almond-toe platforms ($159) in all the colors (teal, scarlet, red, and black) (wish list anyone?)
With the series of outstanding pieces, Smaldone, successfully showcased a collection that can appeal to broader clientele without alienating Talbots current customer base.
The entire collection will begin hitting stores in August in a series of scattered deliveries that will end in October and will range from $89 for basics and $350 outwear and specialty items.
