Television Best Bet: The Voice
My television habits are the questionable type. You know lots of programs from Investigation Discovery, with lots of Law & Order:SVU and Scandal sprinkled in. Reality programs, much less those surrounding music just don’t make it to my DVR. There’s also the fact that I am still holding a grudge from when my favorite contest didn’t win on American Idol. Also, I don’t enjoy seeing mean spirited trials. Were talent-less contestant queued up to perform only to have their dream dashed by the judges. So, when I received an invitation to attend a sneak peek of The Voice, I wasn’t exactly jumping for joy. But went of I went. I am thrilled I did.
The Voice is a gem. Each performer is talented. Each performer story is unique. Some stories are tearjerkers. Others are endearing. Yet, you find yourself rooting for each contestant. The judges (Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher) playful banter and competitiveness is fun to watch. Really, they will stop at nothing– with Usher even promising a young singer VIP tickets to Justin Bieber’s concert to join his team. You feel good watching. The judges seem to care about these contestant (whether they make it or not) and not dashing dreams. Naturally, they still want the “best candidate” on their team.
