Randall’s Island Park Alliance Raises $1.3 Million at the Fielding Dreams Gala
Recently, the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) hosted its Eighth Annual Fielding Dreams Gala Dinner at the American Museum of Natural History where more than 600 high-profile charitable types from various fields helped raised more than $1.3 million.
This year RIPA, recognized two esteemed community leaders for their community efforts. The 2015 Fielding Dreams Gala Honorees were Victor Cruz, New York Giants Wide Receiver, and Lucy Fato, Executive Vice President & General Counsel of McGraw Hill Financial, both of whom joined the Randall’s Island Park Alliance in recognizing the importance of promoting active and healthy living for New York’s children. In addition to lauding Victor and Lucy, the gala also celebrated the continued success of Randall’s Island Park, which offers a world-class destination for sports, recreation and environmental exploration for New York City denizens.
Victor Cruz who was recognized not only for his accomplishments on the field but also for his outstanding contribution to philanthropy, was obviously moved by the recognition. Sharing with guests, “I’m living proof of the positive results that participation in youth athletics can yield. Growing up playing sports instilled in me the skills and motivation necessary to become a professional athlete and team player, and I now lead by example for my most important fan, my daughter,” upon receiving the award from his mother, Blanca Cruz. “I’m honored to be a partner and friend of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, and to work alongside them to give New York City’s kids the advantages of an active life.”
The other night’s honoree, Lucy Fato, who in addition to working a demanding job, also serves on the Board of Amref Health Africa and regularly volunteers with organizations throughout New York City, received her award from Zachary W. Carter, Corporation Counsel of the City of New York. “As a mother of two young daughters, supporting the initiatives of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance is especially important to me,” she told packed audience. “I am thrilled to receive this honor and humbled by the outpouring of support from so many friends and colleagues that made this Gala a huge success. I look forward to the countless memories I know are in store for my family at Randall’s Island Park.”
In addition to the night honorees, the event was Co-Chaired by Timothy Barefield and Justin G. Hamill, and the Dinner Committee was Co-Chaired by Christine Mack and Jenny Slayton Green.
