Designer Profile: Robb and Hugo’s Angela Kim
Unlike, many designers and luxury labels who have quietly moved their production overseas to save money, designer Angela Kim (left) produces her line, Robb and Hugo, entirely in New York City. Kim, a long time designer with over 10-years of experience, launched Robb and Hugo in 2008.
The freshman collection featured comfortable cool knits for the busy gal. Her collection now includes a slew of staples for the working gal and for the chic trendsetter. The pieces include cool tops with darling accents, fitted pants, great skirts and so many more cool finds.
We caught up with Kim who chatted with us about her inspiration, her typical customer and how she spends her free time, among other things. Read on…
The Fabulous Report: Tell us about Robb & Hugo! Why those names?
Angela Kim: The line is named after my husband and son, respectively.
TFR: What inspired you to manufacture your clothes in NYC?
AK: I love buying locally made products especially foods, so it was very natural for me to want my clothing to be made here. We also buy a lot of fabrics and trims made in USA.
TFR: Speaking of inspiration what inspired your latest collection?
AK:The spring collection was inspired by my travels to Bermuda, colors from the beach, we also started using silks this spring 2012 season, since there are sheer and drapey.
TFR: What can we expect from your upcoming collection?
AK: More leather and more jackets.
TFR: Your collection is so New York! But, who is your ideal customer?
AK: She is super busy, she is feminine but not frilly. She has to look stylish, but she is so active, she needs to have that luxe comfort factor.
TFR: Which is the ultimate must have from your collection?
AK: Kendall sweatshirt, sweatshirt with a layer of chiffon, the chiffon zips off the sweatshirt, giving it two different looks.
TFR: Where do you go out to unwind? Were might you be on a Friday Night?
AK: Fridays nights I am usually working and then I pick up my son. I tend to go out more on a saturday night(when I have time), but I work a lot, so usually my free time I spend with my son(he is 6) and husband. When you work a lot, it is important to do things together as a family.
