Beauty Q&A: What’s the Secret to a Gorgeous Stain Free Red Lip?
A red lip is sexy, its daring, and unfortunately sometimes when applied incorrectly it also stains. As a result many of you want to know how apply a gorgeous red lip that not only pops but leaves no red marks in its path. To get the right answer, we asked our favorite Aussie, Napoleon Perdis, whose makeup lines includes a wide array of gorgeous lipsticks –including the Aphrodite a bold red.
In order for your lipstick to stay put it’s essential to prep your lips before applying color. I always apply foundation or concealer over the lips before I apply lip color for a number of reasons. It evens out and neutralizes the color of your natural pigment, giving a more true lipstick color,it gives the lipstick a nice even texture to adhere to and it makes for a cleaner lip finish.
I say when doing red lips – line first AND last. In addition to giving the perfect lip finish, the texture of the pencil applied last helps to keep everything in place.
I love mattifying lipsticks with powders for long-lasting results. My Double Agent Rouge Palette allows you to achieve different textures, creamy and matte, and when used together ensure a hydrated yet enduring finish. If you’re going to an event where you know you’ll be eating and drinking, consider a more matte finish. With that said, don’t be afraid to take out your lipstick and take a moment to touch up – very chic.
To keep lipstick off the teeth, pop your finger in your mouth and pull it out. Anything that is on your finger could have ended up on your teeth. If you don’t want to get your fingers dirty, take a tissue, fold it in half, place it between your lips and press gently – only enough to remove lipstick from the very inside of the lips.
Don’t forget to use a lip brush when applying red lipstick to improve precision. As for Mr. Perdis have you peeped his nude collection?
