Derek Fabulous Says “It Gets Better”
Attending a lot of shows during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is probably every budding fashionista idea of a fabulous time but the truth is – fashion week kills you. You run from show-to-show on very little sleep, drunk of bubbly, tired and hungry, but in the midst of the chaos caring souls host fashion week “lounges.”
This year one of my favorite lounge was hosted by FAB favorite – Derek Fabulous and held at the Empire Hotel. And, it not because I just adore Derek; or because of my fantastic makeover; or even the bumping party with drinks and music from the “ house” D.J.; but simply because the lounge supported the “It Gets Better (IGB)” foundation.
As the name implies, IGB, is an organization aimed at reaching downtrodden young people and drive the message that life does get better. The website is “place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future… [and] it’s a place where people can
share their stories.”
To support the organization a scores of notables including Gabrielle Union, Eve, Isaac Mizrahi, Miguel, Kat de Luna, Joanna Coles, Judith Light, Keri Hilson, Kelly Cutrone, Amanda Hearst, John Bartlett, Alexis Bittar, June Ambrose, Miss Jay and yours truly, filmed public service announcements (PSA’s). We shared stories of despair but here we are – it truly does get better.
