What We Thought:
One look at the beauty of Mara Hoffman Fall/Winter 2015 and you may be thinking, “Princess Leia?” Of her somewhat whimsical inspiration from Star Wars, the designer told Style.com, “When I was putting the palette together with all of these creams, whites, and camels, I thought, this is completely Luke Skywalker,” she said with a laugh. “I fell in love with the landscapes on his planet, Tatooine, and I wanted to modernize and feminize the 1977 film.”
Hoffman’s latest collection significantly scaled back on the out-of-this-world (no pun intended, ironically), bright prints we’ve seen the past few seasons (though there are a few irresistible ones that still peeked through this collection), in a much more neutral-toned selection of casual but floor length dresses and pantsuits that can easily carry into the still-chilly days of early spring. Even in the effort to transport us to another world, the familiarity of the down-to-earth, breezy silhouettes kept us very much in the here and now… as in, our wardrobe is ready for this collection now.
