What We Thought:
Pamella Roland Fall/Winter 2015 harnessed the seduction of 1970’s Parisian glamour into a collection that had Roland step outside the box of her usual classic evening wear. A navy wool separates set opened the show, with matching tuxedo cape jacket and bell pant shining the light on Roland’s consistent construction using rich fabrics (which include jacquard cloque tweed and striped crepe) in deep hues like navy, plum, burgundy, and olive.
Various pieces in the collection contained a touch of menswear-inspired tailoring (such as in the structure of the wool outerwear) that were played up in contrast to the flirty, feminine details like velvet sequins, beading, and hand painting design. Shoes by Manolo Blahnik — the knee-high boots in particular — helped to further tie the collection to the fashions of the ’70s when daringly paired with elegant floor-length dresses.
