#NYFW Backstage Beauty/Hair Report: TIBI Fall 2014
TIBI Fall 2014 was known as “modern Amish chic,” and to accentuate the looks of the collection, the makeup, hair, and nail teams for Bobbi Brown, Aveda, and JINsoon were on hand to work their magic. From an unusual part in the hair to gorgeously stained lip, each backstage decision had a personality of its own that made the presentation of the collection all the more playful.
Makeup: Kim Soane for Bobbi Brown emphasized natural and clean skin with a subtle, nude eye… but added definite spunk to the look by creating a strong brow on the girls and a full, stained lip using Port Lip Color (Lip Extravaganza, Fall 2014). To create the dewy, fresh effect on skin, the team used Hydrating Face Cream to prep skin, followed by a blend of Creamy Concealer, Corrector, Skin Foundation Stick, and Retouching Powder. The Brightening Finishing Powder in Nude was swept across cheeks to finish framing the face.
Hair: Leading the Aveda team, Antoinette Beenders had fun creating a “country meets urbanite look,” which resulted in a unique center part in the hair with a tight braid running down the middle. Pure Abundance Style Prep was applied liberally throughout hair to amp up volume. Beenders then took an inch-wide section of hair at the top of the head (at the hairline) to create the showstopping braid in the center, stopping at the crown and tying with an elastic.
Small sections of hair above the ears were braided down to the end and connected underneath the hair at the nape of the neck. Then 3 large, loose braids were created with the remainder of hair. The Aveda team clamped a flat iron briefly, tousled, and applied Dry Remedy Moisturizing Oil to maintain style and shine. Control Force Hair Spray was used to mist hair for extra hold.
Nails: Jin Soon Choi was a delight to catch up with, as she explained the natural, dusted nail look she envisioned for JINsoon to complement TIBI. Two coats of JINsoon Nostalgia, a single coat of JINsoon Polka White, and a top coat later, the finalized nails were soft, warm, earthy, and reminiscent of dandelion flowers (the inspiration for the nail look).
