#NYFW: 60 Seconds with Katharine Polk
In the spirit of New York Fashion Week, we fired off questions on F/W 2015 and fun personal facts to the designers showcasing their new collections this month. See what Katharine Polk of Houghton had to say in this season’s “60 Seconds” Q&A.
The Fabulous Report (TFR): What can we expect from your latest collection at NYFW?
Katharine Polk (KP): I’m really excited about this one! It has a slight military influence in the color palate. The silhouettes are tailored staying true to Houghton’s name sake, Katharine Houghton Hepburn and layered with our signature Chantilly and guipure laces to add contrast. I have focused on separates this season that transition from day to evening.
TFR: Speaking of NYFW–what shoes get you through the week?
KP: Chucks and Sam Smiths. I’m a flat girl!
TFR: What are your plans for Valentine’s Day (if you can get away from work?)
KP: My show is on the 16th so I doubt my boy and I will do much. I imagine it will end up being a glass of wine at the studio between fittings.
TFR: What song are you embarrassed to have in your iTunes?
KP: I play everything and I play it proud… from Bieber to Kid Rock to Micky Avalon.
TFR: What was the last movie you saw that made you cry?
KP: It’s not a movie, but the new Budweiser commercial with the lost puppy killed me.
TFR: You’re at brunch. Sweet or savory?
KP: Savory.
TFR: If you had a time machine and could go back in time…
KP: I wouldn’t. Don’t regret anything. Learn from everything good or bad and move forward. Everything happens for a reason and is why you are where you are now.
TFR: What career would you have if you hadn’t become a fashion designer?
KP: A 1st grade teacher.
TFR: Where was your last vacation?
KP: Haven’t had a real vacay in a long time, but my boyfriend and I escaped upstate over the summer for a few days.
TFR: Okay, it’s early, but… any hints on Spring 2016?
KP: Not even a glimmer in my mind. I have Houghton Bride to do first!
