#NYFW Backstage Hair Report: Kimberly Ovitz Fall 2013
The Aveda hair team led by Antoinette Beenders (Aveda Global Creative director), who worked on Kimberly Ovitz’s Fall 2013 show created slick hair accented with asymmetrical corseted ponytails–reminiscent of hair from the roaring 1920’s.
“Kimberly’s collection explores the human psyche and innate defenses found in animals and insects,” explains Beenders. “I wanted to create a look that complemented the clothes like a shield of armor or an armadillo’s shell. The texture is smooth, and finish is shiny, but there is a veil of protection. Think of a 1920’s wave in a futuristic interpretation, just touched with danger.”
used two essentials. One was Aveda’s Phomollient Styling Foam this help to shine and hold the hair. And, the second was Aveda’s control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray this was to guarentee the ponytails would maintain its shape.
Here’s the how create the look at home (should you dare).
STEP 1. Start with the center part and then create two sections on each side of the head.
STEP 2. Add a generous amount of Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam until hair is drenched. Make sure to coat the roots and work down till mid-length. Using a Mason Pearson comb each side up into two high ponytails with one pony nearer to the forehead and the other behind the ear.
STEP 3. After you’ve finished the ponytails use an arm’s length of millinery elastic to anchor each of the ponytails in place. You want to do this because the elastic grabs and keeps the hair secure.
STEP 4. Once tied taut, wrap the loose ends of the elastic in a criss-cross fashion around the ponytail, working from the base to the ends, effectively “corseting” the hair.
STEP 5. Once you’ve finished corsetting the hair, you are ready to create S-shaped waves. This is done by gently pulling the hair from in between the elastic cord. Once you’ve done you can smooth out any flyaways with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.
STEP 6. With the flyaways gone the S-shaped hair is now ready for its final the step: ovarlaying the ponies on top of the head. First move the ponytail that sits nearer to the face down the side of the head thus creating a snakes shape along the hairline. Once created the shape secure with it by adding bobby pins and U-pins. If you have long hair loop it underneath your ear.
STEP 7. If you done everything correctly, the other ponytail should sit further on the head forward along the parietal ridge, which is about an inch above the ear. You are ready now to work on the other ponytail. Secure this pony with pins. Like the other ponytail, allow the hair to snake along the hairline above the forehead, tucking the ends under the first ponytail. Combine your work should create the gorgeous look that walked down the runway.
STEP 8. If you are happy with your hair set it in place with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.
